Major League Soccer said Monday its investigation into the allegation that a Minnesota United player directed racially abusive and offensive language at another player during a match against the Portland Timbers on June 26 was inconclusive.

Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese and his players had alleged that there was a racist taunt aimed at midfielder Diego Chara.

The league conducted interviews with the match official and players, and examined video and audio footage from the match.
The match was stopped in the 65th minute when Timbers players went to the officials to inform them of the situation. No disciplinary action was taken at the time of the incident.
"While MLS found the allegation to be made in good faith, the League could not corroborate or refute the allegation," the league said in a statement.
"MLS will use this moment to reinforce its commitment, and the commitment of each of its Clubs, to an environment that is free from discrimination or harassment and treats all participants with respect and inclusivity."
